Distant mentorship program:
Each participant will be assigned to a student of Amherst College who will act as their mentor. Amherst College students are encouraged to establish a rapport with the student and provide a personal perspective and assistance on applying to college and life in general in the United States. This helps both students in Africa and the United States learn from each other in a reciprocal relationship and ensure a degree of continuity after the competition is over. In addition, a publication profiling African students enrolled in Amherst College will be available. This event is for students only.

Applying to an American college:
Amherst College admissions will provide a publication geared specifically to international students interested in applying to this liberal arts institution. The Board of Directors will work closely with the college admissions staff to develop a suitable and thorough presentation on applications, obtaining scholarships/financial aid, and relevant issues to student life. This event is for students only.

Compassionate Words & Compassionate Action - How to Make a Difference in Your Community:
This activity involves teaching participants the different forms of community service and engagement. It will provide a concrete, step-by-step guide on starting a project in one’s own neighborhood, finding public service/volunteer internships, increasing one’s accessibility to government officials. This event is for both students and teachers.

Advocates for Democracy:
This workshop involves intensive theoretical discussion on the meaning of democracy. In addition, teachers will be asked to apply these ideas to contemporary African politics through reading a collection of current event articles and analysis of the mechanisms of democracy at work in Africa. This event is for teachers only and will be led by a member of the Board of Directors.
