Students: All debaters will undergo an intensive training in the Worlds School style of debate. These training sessions will be led by the Chief Adjudicators and part of the Board of Directors. Essential topics include but are not limited to methods of critical thinking, rhetorical skills, and the basic principles of law, economics, and government.
Teachers: All teachers will participate in an orientation session on how to start a debating society at their school. Issues that will be covered include but are not limited to: funding, organization, recruiting, and sustainability.
There will be two parts to this training: a lecture and an experiential portion. In the lecture portion, teachers will also receive curriculum concerning the British Parliamentary, the Model UN, and the Worlds School styles of debate. In the experiential portion, teachers will be able to apply what they have learned by judging side-by-side with the adjudicators in the debate competition.
Christine Churchyard will conduct the majority of the training. Currently, we are seeking to bring in others who have participated in the Model UN Championships in April 2007.
